She Is So Glad reunites with old friend at Cal Expo

Sacramento, CA — She hadn’t had the services of Jim Lackey since he sat behind her for her maiden win on April 1, 2010, now that team is two for two.

Conditioned-claiming pacers, racing for a purse of $3,200, were featured at Cal Expo on Thursday night (May 26), on which She Is So Glad was happy when the wire came up.

Coming away in third position from post-one in the field of a half-dozen, driver Jim Lackey didn’t abort a 3-16ths move when Mighty Fine Hi Ho (James Kennedy) also had the same thing in mind in front of him.

“I didn’t want to sit third because if I sit third, I’m going to be first-up,” stated Lackey. “I would rather be in front.”

Left uncovered to a :29.3 opening quarter, the pair didn’t clear to the lead until well past the 5-16ths mile pole – – then the 4-year-old seemed in hand once on the lead.

“She wasn’t used too bad. I haven’t driven her in a while, and when I drove her last year and you started her up, she wanted to stay at top speed. So tonight I wanted to make sure I didn’t turn her loose until they made me.”

Reaching the half-mile station, timed in :58.4, Lackey had a nice hold of his mare in the third-quarter, and the daughter of Power Of Art went on her own with 5-16ths of a mile to go.

“All you have to do is just loosen up on her a little bit and she’ll accelerate and that’s what I did midway through the final-turn and she responded nicely. It was just a matter if she could maintain her brush all the way to the wire especially with a couple of pretty good closers behind us.”

Reaching the three-quarter mile marker in 1:27.3, Lackey asked for more just into the lane.

“When I popped the earplugs into the stretch, I got some response.”

Drawing clear some and looking okay, Lackey went to serious work on his charge in the last sixteenth of a mile.

“She was good until late when she got a little weak, but I had her under a heavy drive and she saved just enough to win.”

Bred and owned by Jay Rosenberg and trainer Jim Wilkinson Jr. in partnership with Hans Karge & Billie Schwartz, She Is So Glad held on by a neck to win ($6.40) in 1:55.3, a seasonal best. Myra’s HiHo (Lemoyne Svendsen) finished in second, and Itza Free For All (Steve Wiseman) finished just a neck back in third.

“She raced real good and I give her regular driver Rich Wojcio credit for teaching her how to race while under control and not be a runaway – – as that family can get pretty hot. Ritchie did an excellent job,” finished Lackey.
