Tetrick wins six at Dover including feature with Shady Sabrina

Dover, DE — It was another big day for Tim Tetrick on a rainy Tuesday at Dover Downs. Tetrick, who broke the sport’s all-time single season dash win record at the track three seasons back, drove six winners including Shady Sabrina in the $30,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace.

Tim Tetrick steered Shady Sabrina to her third straight win.

Shady Sabrina was nowhere in sight and hadn’t gotten a recent call until Tetrick and the 8-year-old by Cam’s Dignity-Mymymymysharona flashed up on the extreme outside in the final stride to fashion a 1:53.1 victory, her third in succession for Golden Hour Stables and KDK Standardbreds. It was the sixth win of the meet in 12 starts for the Dale Elliott trainee and lifts her seasonal earnings to $84,900. All Or None, driven by Corey Callahan, edged the Ross Wolfenden-handled Apache Dame for second after a torrid head-to-head duel in the stretch.

In the $24,000 Mares Jr. Open, Tetrick piloted Alpine Gold N home in a decisive 1:53.2 for Bob Aerenson, Joe Cicatello and CTC Stable. The win was the second this year for the Mike Hall conditioned Life Sign -Double Rose 6-year-old. Lockes Of Love (Wolfenden) finished second with Its Cherry Ripe N (George Dennis) third.

Go Get Em sets national season’s mark in Meadows series

Washington, PA — Go Get Em did exactly that on Tuesday at The Meadows, dominating his Lookout Hanover Pace division wire-to-wire in 1:53.3, fastest mile this year by a 3-year-old gelding on a five-eighths-mile track. Wayne The Lefty captured the other $15,000 opening leg division of the series for sophomore colt and gelding pacers.

Go Get Em prepped for the series with two sharp overnight miles at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, leaving Dave Palone little need to ponder strategy. He had the opportunity to drop in behind Tyber Shark but pushed Go Get Em to the lead, where the son of Four Starzzz Shark-She’s The One drew off to win by 10-3/4 lengths. Tyber Shark saved place over a rallying Teen Turo.

Kevin McDermott trains Go Get Em for Ervin Miller Stable, Benita Simmons, Leland Mathias and Bert Hochsprung.

Wayne The Lefty prevailed in front-end fashion as well, retaking the lead at the quarter pole for Brett Miller and scoring in 1:54.4, two lengths better than I Like It Hot. Picture Me was third. It was one of three wins on the 14-race card for Miller.

Trent Stohler trains and Wayne The Lefty Stable owns the Allamerican Ingot-Camiana gelding, who won legs of the Junior Trendsetter and Hopeful Series and has earned $49,125 in his last six starts.

In the $25,000 Winners Over $10,000/Preferred Handicap Pace, Valentowner unleashed a wicked late brush to win his third straight — all from at least six lengths off the lead. He scored in 1:51.3, lowering his lifetime mark a tick for driver Mike Wilder, trainer Jim Arledge, Jr. and owner/breeder Bob Key. Arledge swept the exacta as his trainee, Upfront Hannahsboy, was second, a neck back, with Sand Benelli third.

Salutation Hanover wins Open Handicap Trot at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Salutation Hanover, driven by Matt Kakaley and trained by Ron Burke, won the $28,000 Open Handicap Trot on Tuesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

Kakaley caught a break in the race when Vivid Photo (Yannick Gingras) went on a break near the five-eighths pole. Kakaley was second over behind Impressive Earl (George Napolitano, Jr.) with Grain Of Truth (Ray Schnittker) taking the nine-horse field to the half in :57.1 after Vivid Photo was the leader at the opening split in :27.3.

The breaking Vivid Photo, who didn’t finish the race, scattered some horses and Kakaley took to the inside to follow Grain Of Truth. At the top of the lane, Kakaley took to the passing lane and won by 1-1/4 lengths over Grain Of Truth with Impressive Earl some 4-3/4 lengths back in third. Time of the mile was 1:54.3.

This marked the second win in six starts in 2010 for Salutation Hanover with two seconds and a third.

Vivid Photo, the 8-year-old gelding and former Hambletonian winner, was hurting and was examined by a state veterinarian following the race Tuesday evening.

DJ Wonder romps to victory at Monticello

Monticello, NY — Since he came up from Yonkers Raceway in mid-March, DJ Wonder has been the king of the hill at the Mighty M and on Tuesday he defeated the best pacers on the grounds for the fourth time in five starts. The 7-year-old Space Shuttle gelding romped to an easy four length victory in a 1:55.3 clocking, a seasonal best for the Libertino Arrigo-owned, John Berger-trained pacer.

Again with the meet’s leading driver Bruce Aldrich, Jr. at the controls, DJ Wonder was taken off the gate at the start and then moved before the half with cover as the pacesetter Tyrant Hanover ( Mike Micallef) took the field by the half in a soft :59.1. But up the backstretch Aldrich wheeled the big gaited pacer three-deep around his cover, Gold Comet (Billy Dobson), and brushed to the lead on the final turn. From there only the margin of victory was in doubt as DJ Wonder cruised home with a :28.1 final stanza.

Despite his early season heroics DJ Wonder was second choice in the betting. Last year’s Monticello Horse of the Year, Southbound Trucker, was sent off as the 4-5 favorite and though his driver Greg Merton had him in contention at the three- quarters he proved no match for DJ Wonder. Southbound Trucker finished second and Gold Comet, last week’s winner in this class, finished third.

“We got locked in last week and when I found room in the passing lane DJ closed a lot of ground but we were still beaten half a length by Gold Comet and that was the only race he lost here this year,” noted Aldrich. “He couldn’t even make the board at Yonkers but since he’s come here he’s been tough to beat. John (Berger–the horse’s trainer) has been doing a great job with him.”

For a horse that has four wins and one second in his last three starts, and raced against the same company, DJ Wonder amazingly paid $7.50 for win in the six-horse field.

Aldrich reined three other winners on the Tuesday card and is on pace to challenge Zeke Parker’s track record of 526 seasonal wins if he keeps up his current pace. Aldrich is currently in 17th place on the North American leaderboard with 120 driving victories, but unlike many who are ahead of him Aldrich’s victories have come at just one track and not from day-night racing.
