Riley Rose was a 1:53.4 winner in the $22,000 Dover feature for Tim Tetrick.

Tim Tetrick notched his third win of the day by piloting Esther Bier’s homebred Riley Rose, a Real Artist 5-year-old from Bad Girl Joyce, splashing to a 1:53.4 triumph in the $22,000 feature for female pacers. Riley Rose took the lead on the first turn and was never headed in her eighth win of 2008. She has now won $131,315 this year. Ball Gown A (Eric Goodell) raced second from the start. Ireneonthemove (Corey Callahan) closed strongly to finish third.

In an $18,500 Filly and Mare pace, after three straight second-place finishes, Lorna Cohen’s Shady Sabrina broke through with success as Tim Tetrick drove the Cam’s Dignity-Mymymysharona 6-year-old to a 1:53.3 victory. Seamstresforthepan (Allan Davis) sat second during the mile and took second in front of Fantasy Winner (Ross Wolfenden). The victory was the 10th of the season for Shady Sabrina, lifting her earnings this year to $91,945.

Mymymylookatherfly stepped out of the claming ranks to score a 1:54.4 win in a $15,000 Filly and Mare pace. Corey Callahan posted the first of two wins, driving the Real Artist-Radiant Breeze 5-year-old, owned and trained by his dad, Nick Callahan. Rafaella Seelster (Eddie Davis, Jr.) cut out the pace and held on for second. Play For Real (Jonathan Roberts) was the show horse.

Tight driver and trainer races go down to final card at Colonial

New Kent, VA — The driver and trainer races are both still in play with just one day of live racing to go at the Colonial Downs harness meet as Chris Page leads the driver race by two wins and Manley Brown, Jr. clings to a two-win lead in the trainer standings.

Page picked up one win Tuesday night, with Four Starz Eye Van in race nine, to improve his total to 48 through the first 33 days. Sean Bier piloted two winners to move to within two and set up a compelling final day chase.

Page and Bier both have ten drives on Wednesday’s 11-race card. Both are sitting out race one but are scheduled to compete in all other races. Neither appears to have a significant edge on Wednesday as each will have two morning line favorites and several other live contenders on the final card.

Defending champion driver Dave Ingraham is in third with 33 winners.

Brown has that two-race cushion in his attempt at back-to-back training titles but has not entered a single horse on closing night. Brown will finish the season with 21 wins from 208 starts.

Don Harmon moved into prime position with two training wins on the Tuesday night card to improve his total to 19. Roland C. Dunavant, Jr. is in third with 18 wins through 33 days. Harmon and Dunavant both have horses in four races Wednesday.

Harmon has 5-2 morning line choice Katkin in race one but his other three are all double digit early odds. Dunavant has two morning line favorites with the entry of Royal Photo and Dusty Winner in race six and Tom Bruce is the early choice in race eight.

Post time for the final card of live racing in Virginia this year is 6:00 p.m.

Nevertroubletroubl cops Monticello pacing feature

Monticello, NY — Just 10 days ago Rebecca Williams’ Nevertroubletroubl received the award as Older Pacing Horse of the Year at the local Harness Writers banquet and on Tuesday the 4-year-old gelding paced to his 11th seasonal triumph en route to winning the featured Winners Over Pace at Monticello Raceway in a time of 1:57.1.

Mike Merton was once again in the pilot’s seat and sent Nevertroubletroubl to the lead and together they made every pole a winning one en route to a two length victory over Swingingwithashark, who was driven by Merton’s older brother Greg. Third place went to Jellis As Hecht with Kyle DiBenedetto aboard.

“This is some gritty pacer and he’s so handy to drive,” Merton said after his victory. “He can leave like a runner and is tough on top but he can also race comfortably in a hole. And he’s been so consistent. He’s got 11 seconds and four thirds to go along with his 11 wins.”

Trained by Kevin Johnson the son of Pro Bono Best now has a seasonal bankroll in excess of $70,500. Nevertroubletroubl was sent off at odds of just over even money and returned $4.20 for win.
