Tyler Smith wins seven at Northfield

Northfield, OH — Tyler Smith drove seven winners on Friday at Northfield Park.

Smith’s winners included Queenies Alibi ($3.80) in race one, Cinderella Story ($5.80) in race three, Saratoga’s Best ($6.40) in race four, Spectacular Amber ($4.40) in race eight, Queens Or Better ($4.00) in race 10, Emma Rose Ben ($4.20) in race 14 and Miss Suggs ($4.60) in race 15.

The 20-year-old Smith started driving in 2009 and has since garnered 753 career victories and is approaching $4.3 million in purse earnings.

Also having a big night on Friday was Chris Page who drove five winners on the program.

The aforementioned Queenies Alibi paced home for her fourth straight win Friday in Northfield Park’s opening race.

The 7-year-old is owned by the partnership of Charles Stewart and Gay Bankson and is trained by Barry Langley. Tyler Smith has driven the mare for all four of her recent victories.

Friday’s 1:54.2 triumph increased Queenies Alibi’s (His Alibi-Electric Cam Queen-Electric Yankee) lifetime wins tally to 20 and her career earnings to $174,195.

Queenies Alibi returned $3.80 to win and continues to enjoy an undefeated 2013.

Silky Sailor paced home for her 70th career victory on Friday. The 13-year-old has 358 career starts, winning 70 times and finishing second and third 53 and 54 times, respectively. Silky Sailor (Admirals Galley-Silk Knickers-Silk Spats) has career earnings of $140,921 and a lifetime mark of 1:53.4 taken at Hoosier Park at age eight. The pacer’s richest win was for a purse of $7,500 in an $8,000 claiming race at Hoosier Park in 2008.

Throughout her career, Silky Sailor has traveled to compete in two countries, seven states and 31 different racing surfaces.

Action-Broadway moved closer to $1 million in career earnings when she captured Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows. The victory lifted her career bankroll to $987,987. The 2011 Mare Trotter of the Year, Action-Broadway was winless in five starts this year before Friday, when she moved powerfully first over for Tony Hall and sailed off to an in-hand triumph in 1:56. Tiffany was second by a length, with Hawaiianphotograph third. Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains the 6-year-old daughter of Broadway Hall-Photo With Molly for Ken Sommer. Hall enjoyed a triple on the 13-race card while Dave Palone also drove three winners — all for trainer Ron Burke.

Buffalo Raceway
JA’s Charmer, a 4-year-old CR Commando mare, out of the Anastasia Andy mare Anastasia J A, won the $8,500 featured trot in 2:00.3 for owner Michael Torcello at Buffalo Raceway Friday night. It was the first win (and first start) this season for JA’s Charmer, who has won six times in 34 lifetime starts. Dismissed by the bettors at 9-1, JA’s Charmer ($21.40) and driver Billy Dobson settled in sixth as eventual second place finisher Neon Dream (Jack Flanigen) cut all the fractions in the race, :30, 1:00.3 and 1:31. As the field was heading down the backstretch the second time, JA’s Charmer was making her move to engage the leaders at the top of the stretch. A :29 last quarter-mile put the winner 1-1/4 lengths ahead at the finish line. Keystone Fling (Kevin Cummings) came in third. Trained by Gerry Sarama, the $4,250 share of the purse put JA’s Charmer’s lifetime earnings at $104,376. Driver John Cummings, Jr. led all drivers with three wins on the card.
