Visible Gold repeats in Meadows $22,500 pace

Washington, PA — Given a second-quarter breather, Visible Gold clicked off the back half in a nifty :55.1 en route to his second straight victory in Thursday’s $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Visible Gold had to work hard for the lead through a :26.4 opening panel. But when Dave Palone was able to give him a more leisurely :29.2 second quarter, Visible Gold got the pick-me-up he needed. He scored in 1:51.2, a length better than the pocket-sitting Pop Cop, with Somewhere With You third.

Ron Burke trains Visible Gold, a 6-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight-Gabrielle who now boasts $286,534 in career earnings, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and RTC Stables.

Tony Hall, Wilbur Yoder and Palone each piloted three winners on the 15-race program.

After a break for the holiday, live racing at The Meadows resumes Monday with a 16-race card highlighted by a $100,000 Pennsylvania Stallion Series stake for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers.

Harrah’s Philadelphia
The 7-year-old gelding pacer Windsong Gorgeous continued to display sharp form by tallying another victory in Thursday’s tenth race at Harrah’s Philadelphia, a $15,000 claiming pace. The son of Rambaran stormed off the wings from post eight and never looked back, living up to his 1-2 billing. He has now won nine races in 2014. He was driven by George Napolitano, who had two wins on the card. He was claimed for the second consecutive race, this time by Brenda Ellingsworth. Woodmere Ultimate closed mildly for place, while pocket sitter Odds On Demi-Queue finished third.

Saratoga Casino and Raceway
Keystone Wallace pulled off the upset on Thursday night in the $6,500 featured race for conditioned trotters at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The 4-year-old added trotting hobbles for his last qualifier and raced with them for the first time over the sloppy going on Thursday’s card. The race’s 1-9 favorite Powerful Valor (Austin Siegelman) marched out to an easy lead while Keystone Wallace (Yankee Glide) worked hard early to overcome his outside post and got into the pocket behind the favored leader. Those two drew away from the competition around the final turn before Keystone Wallace got up in the final strides to win in 1:59.2. Powerful Valor, while a beaten favorite for the second consecutive week, was again a close second and Secret Ingredient (Frank Coppola Jr.) got up for third. It was the first local victory for Keystone Wallace who was also a beaten favorite in his previous start. The Dan Hennessey-trained trotter was driven to the Thursday score by Wally Hennessey who piloted four winners on the card.
