Y-Dat scores upset in Meadows trot

Washington, PAY-Dat spotted the field six lengths at the half, then roared home with a wide move to pull off a 12-1 upset in Monday’s $22,500 Preferred Trot at the Meadows.

As is his custom, Y-Dat got away slowly for Tony Hall, idling in seventh before launching his decisive three-wide bid. He collared Rembrandt Spur in mid-stretch and defeated that rival by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.4. Eagle Dream completed the ticket.

Casey Koza trains Y-Dat, a 5-year-old Broadway Hall-Tady gelding who has finished first or second 13 times in 16 starts this year, and owns with Danielle Snyder.

Eric Ledford and Mike Wilder each drove four winners on the 14-race card.

Harrington Raceway
James Behrendt’s Harlingen Hanover ($4.80, Roger Plante, Jr.) earned his fourth win of the season with a 1:53.1 win in the $18,600 Open Pace on Monday at Harrington Raceway. Trained by Plante, the 5-year-old Badlands Hanover gelding assumed the lead early from JK Lullabye and never looked back in his two length win. JK Lullabye held second while Chilli NZ was third. Harlingen Hanover came very close to securing a second straight $100,000-plus season. After banking $151,085 in 2010, he has more than $94,000 earned in 2011. Drivers Ross Wolfenden and Jim Morand had three winners on the program.

Ocean Downs
The Dawn Trader Pacing Series, named after a former and well respected trainer on the eastern shore, was raced at Ocean Downs and both races returned major upsets.
In the first $5,000 division, Ken Conover’s Cam’s Future circled the field from post position eight to post a neck decision over Lavros Fling N and Secret Stuff. Freehold Raceway regular Jack Baggitt, Jr., a regular this summer at the Ocean Oval, was in the bike. The win in 1:57.1 put the 9-year-old Cambest gelding’s seasonal earnings over $19,000. In the second $5,000 heat trainer Janet Davis opted to use the services of catch driver John Wagner and the move paid off. Wagner found room late in the stretch to guide Jacks Laughter A to victory in 1:57.4. Jacks Laughter A, owned by Bob Stevenson Inc., posted his third win of the year. Mark Gray continued his hot hand by posting his fourth win in two nights as he guided Sometimes Regrets to victory in the first race. The win for the 4-year-old Spirited Style gelding in 1:58 was the first of his career.
