Racy Tooter, 19, dies

Lexington, KY — The 19-year-old pacing mare Racy Tooter, a winner of 27 races and $162,448 in purse earnings, died Monday (June 11) after breaking a leg while turned out at her home at R.C. Hunwick Farms in Galion, Ohio.

A daughter of Tooter Scooter out of the $151,000-winning Gypsy Bret mare Race Muffin, Racy Tooter was bred and owned by Ron Hunwick, Jr.’s R.C. Hunwick Farms.

Racy Tooter made 130 starts over her career, taking a mark of 1:53.4 as a 4-year-old on July 11, 1997, winning an Open Pace for fillies and mares at Hoosier Park with David Miller driving. She later equaled that time on May 26, 2000, in a conditioned race at Scioto Downs with Jeff Fout in the sulky.

Overall, Racy Tooter had a slate of 130-27-22-22. Her last start came in January 2001 at Dover Downs.
