Ayers Ratliff offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-4 at Northfield Park on Jan. 4, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Northfield Park Pick-4, Races 8-11, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012

On Wednesday, January 4, Northfield Park is again offering a $10,000 guaranteed Pick-4 pool. Northfield Park’s Pick-4 starts in race eight and offers a 14 percent takeout rate (the lowest in harness racing).

$1 play: 149/35/347/145 = $54

Analysis:

Race 8: (1) Peel Away starts from the rail and is one of several with a chance in here. (4) Shark Lover has a chance to be there and may be decent odds, too. (9) Dandy Dick should get a good trip from the second tier; has a closing kick if he is up close at the top of the lane.

Race 9: (3) Master’s Sweetie was parked last start from post seven; drops in class tonight and has a big chance. (5) Wyatt starts with his nose on the gate and could be better than last week.

Race 10: (3) Eagle Jacob dropped to this class last start but drew post seven; should be able to do better tonight. (4) Most Remarkable drops in class after having some credible showings against better. (7) Summerhill Chris has been knocking at the door; continues to knock tonight.

Race 11: (1) Count Howie has enough speed and has a great post; however there are major concerns about staying flat. (4) Domi Racer looks to be coming into form and has a shot to be there. (5) Triple G. Pfister looks to have this trotter in good form and could get the job done tonight.
