Record Pick 4 payout, KYSS action top Monday at The Red Mile

Lexington, KY — There was a $3,385 Pick 4 carryover going into Monday night (August 23) at The Red Mile and fans supported the wager by adding another $12,417 into the pool.

It didn’t take long for the fireworks to begin for another night, as Don Irvine, Jr. guided 38-1 longshot Domi Racer to victory in the seventh race and opening leg of the wager. The results of the last three legs were nowhere near as surprising, and one lucky fan was able to take down the entire net pool of $12,699. The $1 payout was a track record on the Pick 4 wager, which is offered nightly on races 7-10.

Kentucky Sires Stakes action also got underway, with the opening leg for 2-year old trotters and pacers. Each of the four classes split into two $15,000 divisions, with the exception of the 2-year old filly pacers, where a field of seven lined up in a single $30,000 contest.

Feels Good (#1) rallied late for a head victory over Joe’s Miss Daisy.

Feels Good (James Rattray) sat third the entire way through fractions of :29, :58.2, and 1:27.4 before fanning out in the center of the track and exploding home with a :27 second final panel to score a head victory over Joe’s Miss Daisy (Dan Noble) in 1:55.1. Kiss Me Callie (Brad Hanners) was the early pacesetter and ended up 3-1/2 lengths behind the winner in third.

Feels Good, the daughter of Mr Feelgood-Maryanne Supreme, was making her first start for trainer Noel Daley after two earlier tries in Canada for owner Joseph Hudon, Jr. Overlooked by the betting public, Feels Good returned $42.60 for the win.

Freshman filly trotters split into two $15,000 KYSS divisions and Screaming Awsome (Mike Lachance) put in a huge effort to win the first division in 1:59.3. The daughter of Like A Prayer-Twilight Time was caught wide around the opening turn and through the opening quarter of :29.3. Lachance pressed on with the filly as the field trotted up the backstretch and she finally cleared to the lead just past the half in :59.1. Despite the tough trip, Screaming Awsome reached three-quarters in 1:29.2 and sprinted away from her rivals down the lane to a length score in 1:59.3. The win was her fifth lifetime in only her seventh career start for owner-trainer Buck Sprinkle. Longshot Doc’s Victoria (Jean Dubois) was first over for a long way and dug in gamely to be second, while the even money favorite, Miley Jo (Brian Sears), was 3-1/2 lengths back in third.

Social Queen (Dan Shetler) took the other $15,000 KYSS split for 2-year old filly trotters with a gate-to-wire score in 2:00.3. She is the daughter of Daguet Rapide-Destiny’s Vision S, and is trained by Marie Ortolan Bar.

The most impressive winner of the night may have come in the final $15,000 KYSS split on the program when Tactician (Dave Magee) rallied late after sitting fifth the entire mile to win by a length in 1:54.3. The 2-year old colt pacer is the son of Mr Feelgood-Western Cruise, and was making only his second career start for trainer Robert Taylor and owner Brittany Farms. The winner used a :27.4 final quarter to sprint by early pacesetter, Camgrandest (Randy Jerrell), who ended up holding second in a photo over Doc’s Leopard King (Mike Neafus).

Visual Delight (Mark Evers) remained undefeated in two lifetime starts to win the other $15,000 KYSS division in 1:56. Visual Delight is the son of Art’s Chip-Stylish Strider and is also trained by Mark Evers for the Velocity Standardbreds.

Audition (Dave Magee) took one of the two $15,000 KYSS splits for freshman trotting colts in 2:00. It was the second win in five starts for the son of Valley Victor-Hot Dog Mustard, who is trained by Robert Taylor.

The other division for 2-year old trotting colts was won by JB Oui Oui (Jean Dubois) after sitting third throughout and sprinting by his rivals late en route to a 1-3/4 length win in 1:58.4. It was the first career victory in five lifetime starts for the son of Daguet Rapide-Jolie Reve, who is trained by Henrik Hollsten.

Racing continues this Thursday at The Red Mile with a first post of 6:30 p.m.
