While Sunday’s final performance will be a bittersweet occasion, Saturday’s card will be a day of celebration with two very special ceremonies interspersed among the day’s 11 races.

The eighth annual Standardbred Retirement Ceremony will take place midway through the program as ten tried and true veteran racehorses will parade one last time in front of the stands before hanging up their bridles for the final time. By rule, all Standardbred race horses must retire at the conclusion of their 14-year-old season and Scarborough Downs, in co-operation with the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association and the Maine Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association will come together to fete these equine athletes in what will be a colorful and emotional celebration of their careers.

Year-end achievement awards, sponsored by the New England Harness Writers Association, will also be presented during the day in various categories, including the coveted Pacer and Trotter of the Year awards.

Post time for both the Saturday and Sunday cards is set for 12:05 p.m. (EST) with opening day of the 2015 season at Scarborough Downs slated for March 28.
