Pompano Beach, FL — Michael Polansky’s Battleshoe Victor, a 1-3/4 length winner in his last start, and Albert Lispi’s Sand Prince, who has prevailed in three straight outings, headline a field of eight that will assemble for the $10,000 Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park on Monday, March 19.

With a career bankroll of over $126,000, Battleshoe Victor has visited the winner’s circle twice at Pompano this year, adding an Open Handicap victory on January 15 to his most recent tally on March 5. The Tom Harmer trainee competed in this year’s Mack Lobell Trotting Series, finishing second to Tweedle Dum in the $77,800 Final on February 24.

Battleshoe Victor is listed as the 3-1 second choice in the morning line and will start from post eight with Bruce Ranger at the lines.

Installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for Monday’s featured trot, Sand Prince will be looking for his fourth straight trip to the Pompano Park winner’s circle. In his most recent appearance, the son of Mr Vic trotted the mile in a lifetime best 1:56 when cruising to a 6-1/2 length triumph in a non-winners event on March 12.

Sand Prince will be driven from post six by Joe Pavia, Jr. for trainer Gerry Nelson.

Railee Possible enters the Monday feature with two wins from three starts this year, most recently taking a non-winners trot at Pompano in 1:57.1 on March 14. The son of Anythings Possible is trained by Veral Bowman and will start from post two with Wally Hennessey at the controls.

Budlightning, who scored at odds of 27-1 in his last start, also returns for the Monday feature. The son of Sierra Kosmos has prevailed in three of seven starts this year, and will be driven from post two by Stephan Lareau for trainer Diane Hellen.

Other notables in the field include Muscular, the only horse to defeat Tweedle Dum at Pompano Park this year, and Victor’s Pursuit, a 5-year-old mare that finished fourth in the Mack Lobell Trotting Series Final.
