Columbus, OH — Richard A. King, 68, of Stoneboro, Pa., died March 6, 2013, in his home.

Born May 6, 1944, in Grove City, Mr. King was a son of Melville G. “Mel” King and Georgia D. Cramer King. He attended Mercer High School and enlisted in the Army and was a Vietnam-era veteran, serving in Korea. After the military, he went to work for Foster Grading Co. of Jackson Center, where he operated its asphalt plant. He retired in 1999 after 33 years of service.

Mr. King was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds and Loyal Order of the Moose, Franklin.

He and his wife, Tete, loved animals. They operated King Stable, where he loved working with and training Standardbred, with his recent favorites being O W H and Churchstretstation. They raced at The Meadows, Northfield and Buffalo, and at many of the Pennsylvania fairs through the years.

He was a member of the USTA and the Pennsylvania Fair Harness Horsemen’s Association.

Mr. King was a huge supporter of his nieces, Stacy and Lauren, when they were in the 4-H program, showing their horses.

He is survived by his wife, the former Audre J. “Tete” Dunkle, whom he married Oct. 30, 1987; stepdaughter, Jody R. (William) McClearn; stepson, Jason A. Clark (companion Katherine “Kate” Dorn); three grandchildren; and sisters, Twila J. (Charles Richard) Taylor and Sandi M. Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents.
