Riding a wave with Rising Tide

by Michael M. Sweeney, for Scarborough Downs

Scarborough, Maine — Saturday afternoon (April 21) begins the second week of the 2007 harness meet at Scarborough Downs and a race card filled with young horses has been prepared for public approval. Whether destined for future stardom or raceway mainstay, these budding youngsters represent the hopes and hard work of countless individuals who will glean well-earned satisfaction from their horse’s achievements.

One such individual who is currently riding a wave of victories is Rising Tide.

The regally bred 4-year-old — from a Cambest/Artsplace cross — will hang-ten on the crest of a two race win streak, as he bursts forth into Scarborough’s feature event on Saturday. Trainer/driver Shawn Gray will be at the helm.

A useful 3-year-old last season, Rising Tide broke his maiden under the guidance of Saratoga teamster John Cross before embarking on a tour of various tracks and late closers.

Now in the coastal stable of Maine-based Alicia Brown, the well traveled youngster apparently has found Down East cooking to his taste — having produced his greatest triumphs since venturing north.

The precocious stud has posted impressive wins in each of his last two outings for the tandem of Gray and Brown, while never finishing worse than third for his new connections. Included in those tallies — a brand new lifetime mark of 1:57.2 and a front running victory in his local debut.

Grab a board and catch a wave at the seaside oval on Saturday afternoon.

Moon Doggy, Gidgit and the whole beach party gang will be on hand as Rising Tide goes for his third in a row on the big-time oval at Maine’s showplace of harness racing — Scarborough Downs.

Cow-A-Bunga Dude!
