Robert Pence, 83, dies

Northfield, OH — Robert F. Pence, 83, of Middlefield, Ohio, died June 28, 2013, at Geauga Hospital from pancreatic cancer.

He was born March 16, 1930, in Burton, Ohio, to Samuel and Gladys Pence, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Pence was a great basketball player and boxer in high school, winning numerous awards in both sports. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He then worked heavy equipment and retired from Trinidad.

His favorite sport was Standardbred racing. He owned several Standardbred, the last one being Sugar Valley Angel, and he was a member of the United States Trotting Association for 37 years.

Mr. Pence is survived by his son, Robert Jr. (Mary); four grandchildren; a great grandchild; sister, Jean Edwards; nephew, Dale (Brenda) Edwards; and a great nephew and niece.

His wishes were to be cremated and arrangements are being handled by Russell Funeral Service of Middlefield. No services will be observed per his request.
