Rock Candy takes Meadows Open; Wrenn wins five

Washington, PA — Rock Candy sat cozy in the pocket, then roared past Macadoodledoo in the lane to capture Thursday’s (Feb. 18) $16,200 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Macadoodledoo was four-wide to reach the early lead in a demanding :26.2 first quarter over a “good” surface. That left him vulnerable to Rock Candy, who swung wide through the stretch for Brady Brown to score in 1:52.2, three-quarters of a length better than Carolina Beach. Windsong Leo was a ground-saving third.

Paul Corey trains Rock Candy, who extended his lifetime bankroll to $451,042, for Kenneth Ashba.

Ronnie Wrenn Jr. enjoyed an outstanding Thursday with five victories, including three for trainer Ron Burke.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday (Feb. 19), when the 13-race program features a $15,771 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5 as well as a $1,255.97 carryover in the Pick-5 (races 8-12). First post is 12:45 p.m.
