Rockinbythebeach brings $93,000 at Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale

Columbus, OH — Rockinbythebeach, an extremely attractive bay daughter of Indiana’s leading stallion, Rockin Image, went home with Tim Ottesen of TKO Stables for $93,000 on Friday (Oct. 20) on the first day of the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale.

The filly’s dam, Antigua Hanover, amassed $242,853 on the racetrack over her four-year career. The daughter of Somebeachsomewhere is a half-sibling to Appeloosa Hanover (Western Hanover, $468,725) and Apere Hanover (The Panderosa, $153,248).

Rockinbythebeach, who went through the ring as Hip No. 31 and was one of 182 yearlings offered for sale Friday, is her dam’s first foal. She was consigned by Swiss Boarding Farms.

While yearlings by Rockin Image, a resident of Victory Hill Farm, understandably opened wallets, so did the offspring of his trotting compatriot Swan For All. In fact, 27 yearlings by Swan For All sold for a total of $996,000 with an average of $36,88.89, while the 36 Rockin Image foals sold for $1,023,500 with an average of $28,430.56.

The Hoosier State’s top trotting stallion, who is responsible for the world’s fleetest female trotter in the history of the sport in Hannelore Hanover, was the sire of Swans Miss Muffet, Hip No. 104, who fetched the sum of $87,000. Entered in the sale on behalf of In Law Stables as agent, the brown filly will now reside in the barn of Byron Hooley.

Her dam, Earls Miss Muffit, collected $322,882 and was an outstanding performer in Indiana Sire Stakes company, as she was second in the Indiana Sire Stakes final as a 2-year-old. She is also a full sibling to Indiana champion Earl’s Glider (Earl Of Stormont, $606,444), who ironically was a $2,400 yearling purchase at this very sale in 2008.

Swans Miss Muffet is the first foal from her mother and was bred by Karl Dean Miller.

“We are very pleased with the sales results today,” said Steve Cross, sales manager. “We expected the horses by Rockin Image to sell well and the Swan For Alls. You can tell when you see them in a field (Swan For All progeny) they are by him because he just stamps them, as they are all good-looking individuals with those big trotting ears.

“Tellitikeitis also did very well and prior to the results being final we were up roughly $3,000 from our average last year, as our numbers were about $20,000. This is truly a credit to my staff, the consigners and buyers that supported us, as well as Centaur Gaming for all they have done for the Indiana program. I very much look forward to the second day of the sale.”

Cross and his contingent had every right to be elated with the first day of the sale as 182 yearlings sold for $3,751,000 with an average of $20,610 and a median of $16,000. This was certainly an increase from last year’s results when 183 horses were sold for $2,888,200 with an average of $15,783 and a median of $12,000.

The second day of the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale commences at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds when 179 yearlings will be offered for purchase.
