Columbus, MN — Ronny B Good, one of just two mares and the second oldest of the ten competitors, captured the $6,500 championship final of the Running Aces “Survivor Series” on Sunday night (July 31).
The 8-year-old Incredible Finale mare, owned by Banks Standardbreds of nearby Cannon Falls, swept from eighth at the half and seventh at the three-quarters to win by a neck in 1:55.1 for driver Lemoyne Svendsen. Shark Lover (Joey Mapes) made a quarter move to the lead and just got nailed on the wire. Lets Talk About Me (Nick Roland), the other mare in the bulky field, was another length back in third.
A $7,000 Open Pace was also featured on the program with At Last (Dean Magee) turning the tables on Delco Willobee (John DeLong) in 1:52.4. The same pair comprised the exacta a week earlier, but in the opposite order. Thedeadliestcatch (Svendsen) got the show dough.
The $212,869 pushed through the mutuel windows again toppled the all-time handle record at Running Aces, now in its fourth season, buoyed by the export of their signal for three races to the California simulcast market for the first time.
The switch to a later post time on Sunday nights has proved very popular with patrons throughout the United States that have been exposed to it. Simulcast directors interested in sampling the Running Aces product, especially on Sunday nights when little other ‘export’ is available, are encouraged to contact Mutuels Director Ben Blum at 651.925.4514.
Racing resumes at Running Aces on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. (CDT).
