Rookies trot into Tioga for Saturday Sire Stakes

Nichols, NY — Tioga Downs welcomes two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Saturday (Aug. 13).

Crown (Brian Sears) looks like the one to beat as the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $53,500 first division. The Chapter Seven-Amour Heiress colt, trained by Marcus Melander, is two-for-two this year, having picked up NYSS wins at Vernon Downs and Saratoga. His toughest rival looks to be the Mark Harder-trained The Gruffalo (Tyler Buter). The Chapter Seven-Clementine Dream colt is two-for-three in his young career, also winning NYSS events at Vernon and Saratoga.

Wild Bill Kelso (Wally Hennessey) is the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $53,350 second division. Jim Campbell trains the Crazy Wow-Broadway Jo Ell gelding who won NYSS races at Monticello and Buffalo.

First-time starter Tillio’s Action (Mike Merton) is the 3-1 second choice after winning a Meadowlands qualifier in 1:57.4. The E L Titan-Nothing But Nice colt is trained by John Grasso.

The 13-race card starts at 6:15 p.m.
