Rose Run Uriah rises, upsets at Dover

Dover, DE — Rose Run Uriah ($19.20), who had beaten upper-level claimers in two of his three previous starts, rode the pocket to an 8-1 upset in Thursday night’s (Jan. 6) $27,500 Blue Hen/Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs.

Rose Run Uriah left alertly from post four and led the field through a blistering :25.4 first quarter before yielding to 7-5 favorite Island Of The Sea with a lap to go. Island Of The Sea and Tim Tetrick controlled a :54 half and kept a first-over challenge from Mack at bay to three-quarters in 1:21.4. As Mack stalled on the far turn, Pat Berry found room to angle Rose Run Uriah off the pylons with an eighth of a mile remaining, and the pair reached to defeat Island Of The Sea by a neck in 1:50. Major Crocker A (Montrell Teague) closed from last to finish third.

Bobby Glassmeyer owns and trains Rose Run Uriah, a 6-year-old Jereme’s Jet gelding.

Allan Davis drove four winners on the card; Montrell Teague and George Napolitano each won two races. Trainer Chuck Crissman Jr. and owner Rodney Long recorded doubles, as well.

Racing at Dover Downs resumes on Monday (Jan. 10) with post time at 4:30 p.m.
