Roy Marohn wins third leg of GSY Pacing Series

East Rutherford, NJ — With a new week and new weather at the Big M, the third leg of the amateur GSY Pacing Series brought a different driver to the winner’s circle in Roy Marohn; it was his first triumph of 2017.

In the second race on the card on Friday night (March 3), speed was the name of the game as horses and drivers fought for position. Our Cullenscrown N, with Robert Hechkoff in the bike, was fighting for the lead and took it just after the quarter-pole. It was short lived because at the half-mile marker, Roy Marohn, aboard race winner Legends Luck, made a backside brush to the top and never looked back.

He ended up winning by a half-length over Lightning Strike, with John Kokinos in the bike, but was disqualified for interference with Shaguar, who had the services of Michael Russo, and placed fourth. Moving into the second place slot was last week’s winner, Who Do You Like, driven by Bob Davis, and Russo was placed third.

The race was timed in 1:56.3.

Legends Luck is a 9-year-old gelding by Camluck and is owned by Fiddler’s Creek Stables LLC from Michigan. He is trained by Travis Alexander.

Come down next Thursday (March 9) and Friday (March 10) to the Big M to watch the fourth and final leg of the GSY Trotting and Pacing Series to see who makes the finals for the following Friday night (March 17).

Both finals will go for a generous purse of $12,500. First post is 7:15 p.m.
