Sandbetweenmytoes, Allywag Hanover shine in PA Sire Stakes

Wilkes-Barre, PA — While Allywag Hanover won his division of Tuesday afternoon’s (Aug. 11) $191,159 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, his star was eclipsed by Sandbetweenmytoes.

Sandbetweenmytoes advanced first-over into pacesetter The Greek Freak and used a :53 final half to draw off to a five-length victory in a career best 1:49. Dexter Dunn drove the Somebeachsomewhere gelding to his second Sire Stakes win this season for trainer Jim Campbell and Fashion Farms LLC.

Allywag Hanover also captured his second Sire Stakes win by way of a 1:49.1 clocking. The Captaintreacherous colt controlled the tempo in rein to Tim Tetrick and stepped home in :53.4 to evade a late move from No Lou Zing by a length. Brett Pelling trains Allywag Hanover, who has won four of his six starts this year, for the Allywag Stable.

In the remaining Sire Stakes division, Cattlewash withstood a late charge from Barrage Hanover by three-quarters of a length and lowered his mark to 1:50.1. David Miller drove the Somebeachsomewhere colt for trainer Ron Burke and owner Bill Donovan.

Five $20,000 Stallion Series events complemented the Sire Stakes triple bill, with the Western Ideal colt Seriously Hanover becoming the division’s only three-time winner by way of a 1:51.1 win for driver Scott Zeron and trainer Ron Coyne Jr. Andy McCarthy won two divisions, teaming up with JK Lucky Charms (1:50.4) and Revolt (1:51.4). Sunuma Beach (1:51.2, Tetrick) and Ruthless Hanover (1:51, George Napolitano Jr.) took the other splits.
