Sarah Svanstedt and Youcaniknow win fifth leg of GSY Spring Series

East Rutherford, NJ – Under a fine mist at the start of the first race on the Friday evening (April 12) at the Meadowlands, nine pacers went to post for the fifth leg of the GSY amateur event. With several horses charging for the lead into the first turn, this led to some fast fractions and a horse parked throughout the mile stanza.

Kiwi Ideal N (Tony Beltrami), scorched the first quarter in :27. He was challenged on the outside by Quality Bud (Mark Silva) who took over as the field approached the half mile, timed in :55.1. The pace slowed a touch to the third quarter, but by that time the outer flow of horses were moving towards the leaders.

That is when “Battlin” Bob Davis and Rather Swell made a bold three-wide bid for the top spot but was never able to get there and had to settle for fourth. Following his live cover was Youcaniknow, driven by Sarah Svanstedt, making her first start of the series. She was able to tip off of Davis’s cover and move three wide in the stretch to collar the pocket sitting Beltrami by a head at the wire. Silva, the leader for the majority of the race was able to hold on for show. The final time was a blistering 1:51.4.

Youcaniknow, a 5-year-old gelding by Roll With Joe is owned and trained by Ake Svanstedt.

The GSY will be back next Friday (April 19) for its sixth and final leg before the final to see who makes it in for the $17,000 purse. The first race post is slated for 7:15 p.m.
