Saratoga generates $75 million for education

Saratoga Springs, NY — Saratoga Casino and Raceway generated nearly $75 million for education during the 2011-2012 fiscal year, according to the recently released data by the Division of Lottery.

As part of Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s ongoing support of New York’s education, 48.11 percent of Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s net win is given to the Lottery to fund education.

“As the first raceway to open in New York State, we are pleased to have set a strong precedent for those that have followed,” said Jamie Hartman, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We are a proud contributor to the state and to education, and we look forward to continuing to provide financial benefits to both entities.”

In 2011-2012, revenue generated by Saratoga Casino and Raceway for education was equivalent to the annual salaries of approximately 1,075 teachers. With education budgets consistently tightening, this revenue will allow for students throughout New York State to continue to earn a high-quality public education. Since opening in 2004, Saratoga Casino and Raceway has generated more than $518.6 million in education funding for New York.

In addition to financial contributions to the Lottery, Saratoga Casino and Raceway also contributes to the state and supports the local community. The casino also contributed $3.1 million in economic aid to local government revenues in 2011.
