SBOA-NJ offers horse ownership course

by Carol Hodes, for the SBOA of New Jersey

Freehold, NJ — A painless way to scratch the horse ownership itch is offered in the New Owners Seminar conducted by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey on Thursday, October 25, at Freehold Raceway.

Post time for the program is 12:30 p.m. The seminar will take place at Freehold Raceway and lunch will be served. Tuition is free but re-registration is required.

Tackling the topics of cost, risks and rewards as well as how to select a trainer and horse will be Nancy Webster Peck, director of the SBOA-NJ New Owners Program.

Peck will take fledgling horse owners through the process of ownership and provide a tour of Freehold, including the paddock, the track’s television production facilities and an up-close view of track announcer Larry Lederman calling a race.

Participants will receive a one-year subscription to Hoof Beats magazine, the monthly publication of the United States Trotting Association and a $25 credit for the USTA’s online database, PATHWAY.

To register or for more information, call Nancy Webster Peck at (866) 417-4644 or send an e-mail to newowners@sboanj.com. Information also may be found under the New Owners link on the SBOA of NJ’s Web site at www.sboanj.com.
