Scarlet & Gray entries due this Wednesday

from Northfield Park

Northfield, OH —- Entries for the Scarlet & Gray Stakes, the only events divided by sex and gait for older Ohio-breds, are due this Wednesday morning for possible eliminations on Saturday, August 29.

If eliminations are necessary they will go for guaranteed $10,000 purses with the top four from each race returning for the lucrative finals on September 5.

In the past, eliminations have been needed in the pace and trot events for older males, but only once have eliminations been necessary for either of the mare stakes. Despite that fact, all horses planning to compete must be entered this week in accordance with the race rules.

“We should know by 9 a.m. Wednesday morning if eliminations are necessary in any of the four divisions. If the race doesn’t split, then horses entered may transfer to other events we may have available at Northfield on Saturday night, or be released to race elsewhere,” said race secretary Gregg Keidel.

The finals will go for approximately $40,000 each on the Ohio Super Night card which also features the eight O.S.S. championships for 2- and 3-year-olds.

To enter the Scarlet & Gray, or to check on a horse’s eligibility, call the Northfield Race Office at 330.467.4101, ext. 300.
