Scarlet Turgot was never better

The 10-year-old French mare Scarlet Turgot is on top of her game at present. A fortnight ago she won the world’s richest under saddle race, the Prix de Cornulier, and Sunday afternoon (Feb. 7) she took another big win at Vincennes in the Prix d’Ile de France.

Scarlet Turgot, with Alexander Abrivard in the saddle, came with a late burst to win the Prix d’Ile de France over the 1-5/16th mile distance in a new track record of 1:53.2 (mile rate) followed a half-length back by long leading Vaillant Cash with Clement Frecelle.

The purse for the winner was 90,000 Euro — or $100,000.

That was win number 20 from 83 races for Scarlet Turgot, who is trained by Yannick Briand.

Next time out for Scarlet Turgot could be in the Prix de Paris — a marathon test over 4,150 meter (or 2-9/16th miles) — on Sunday (Feb. 28) at Vincennes.

The Prix de Paris is the third and last of the three big international races during the Winter meeting at Vincennes. The first was the Prix d’Amerique and the second is the upcoming Prix de France on Sunday.

Some 23 trotters were entered in the Prix de France this morning. Among these are the top three finishers from the Prix d’Amerique — Bold Eagle, Timoko and Oasis Bi. The start list will be released Thursday at noon, European time.
