Hamburg, NY — Former Western New York native Ray Schnittker brought some high priced trotting fillies to Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday night (July 6) to compete in $25,439 divisions of New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotting fillies. He left with two blankets, as he won the first split with Borrow And Spend and the fifth with Lima Playmate.
Borrow And Spend (Credit Winner-Armbro Déjà Vu) shot right to the lead from post six and hit the quarter in :31 and the half in 1:03. Schnittker let the favorite in the race, El On Wheels (Jim Devaux), have the lead to the three-quarters in 1:35.1, but a strong stretch drive by Borrow And Spend ($18.40) put her a nose in front of second place finisher Upfront Perry (Jeff Gregory) at the finish line in a time of 2:06.
“This is a full sister to Dejarmbro,” said Schnittker. “It wasn’t my driving; it was my wallet that got her to the winner’s circle.”
His second win behind Lima Playmate (Credit Winner-Pacific Legacy, $5.20) was a wire-to-wire effort in 2:03, which was the fastest Sire Stakes race of the night.
“This could be a really good one,” said Schnittker. “She did it real easy and had plenty left in the tank.”
The other Sire Stakes winners were Miss Fidget (Conway Hall-So Wonderful), in 2:03.3 with Eddie Lohmeyer driving for owner Patricia Hogan; Glee (Conway Hall-Trotting For Fun) and John Stark, Jr., a neck winner in a lifetime best 2:05.2; and Allidoiswin (Credit Winner-You’vemetyourmatch) and Marcus Johansson, who scored her first lifetime win in 2:03.2.
Racing will resume on Friday (July 8) with first post scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
