Scioto to host Ohio Breeders Stakes

from Scioto Downs Racino

Columbus, OH — The Ohio Breeders Stakes for colts and fillies on their respective gaits will go postward this weekend at Scioto Downs.

The trotting and pacing 2-year-olds will have their chance at the cash on Friday (Aug. 8).

Starting in race one on the 12-race card, the 2-year filly pacers will go for a purse of $26,200. Bell Flower and Chris Page are slated as the 3-5 morning line favorite for trainer Jim Arledge Jr. She’s an impressive three-for-three and will look to continue her perfect record. Bell Flower (Fly Fly Buckeye-Our Lady Countess) will start from post three in the eight-horse field.

Races two and three are the split divisions of the 2-year filly trotters. The fields of seven will race for a purse of $16,600 each.

Dark Roast (Full Count-Edens Mardi Gras) for trainer Marty Wollam is one of the morning line favorites in race two. Rightfully so, she’s coming off a notable Ohio State Fair Stakes win in 2:01.3. Standing in the filly’s way will be her own stablemate, Influential Girl (Full Count-Benn’s Spice) and Chip Girl (Chip Chip Hooray-Jailhouse Bling) from the Krista Harmon barn.

The flawless Sunrise Nibbles (Iron Duke-Sweethomeourbama) for trainer Chris Beaver will try to extend her winning streak to four when she starts from post five in race three with driver Chris Page.

The 2-year old colt trotters are slated for race five and the full field of nine will battle it out for a share of the $26,800 purse.
Neely’s Messenger (Neely Dunn-Fun Message) for trainer/driver Marty Wollam will start from post two as the 2-1 favorite. He dominated a similar group last week in the Ohio State Fair Stakes at Scioto Downs in a new lifetime best performance of 1:58.3 by a margin of 7-3/4 lengths.

Race 11 is the final Ohio Breeders Stakes for 2-year colt pacers. A field of six will race for a bounty of $26,400. The impressive Nobles Finesse (Feelin Friskie-Lady Lonesome) for new trainer Kurt Sugg will hope to appease his new connections with a victory, but Chief Talkalot (Feelin Friskie-Jardin Des Arts) from the Brian Brown Stable looks to stand in his way from post six.

The sophomores will get in to action on Saturday (Aug. 9).

The action will start in race two on the 14-race card with the 3-year-old colt trotters. A field of eight will race for a purse of $21,200. Rompaway Galaxy (Rompaway Wally-Rompaway Wynona) will look to romp again for trainer Krista Harmon and regular driver Mike Micallef. They will start from post three and are the 4-5 morning line favorite.

The filly pacers will compete for the $22,200 prize in race three. The competitive field of six leaves the race wide open and gives the chance for any one of these ladies to steal the spotlight.

A full field of nine 3-year colt pacers will make up race five on the program for a purse of $23,100. It will be a showdown between the undefeated Friskie Adam (Feelin Friskie-Lottery Fever) from the Dan Ater stable and Big Bossman (Feelin Friskie-Lovely American) trained by Doug Hinklin. Big Bossman will start from post two for driver Greg Grismore and Friskie Adam drew post five with Kyle Ater at the lines.

The Ohio Breeders Stakes concludes in race 10 with the trotting fillies. The field of nine will chase after the $22,700 prize. The 8-5 favorite, Sandys Victory (Victory Sam-Amessageforsandy) and Josh Sutton, will look to continue their winning streak, starting from post four for trainer Larry Tinch. In The Grippers (Steven One-Over Baked) is looking to rebound for her connections and will start from post eight for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr and driver Chris Page.

Post time is 6:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
