Sears leads race for 2011 Meadowlands title

East Rutherford, NJ — Brian Sears is poised to capture his sixth Meadowlands driving title in seven years this weekend.

Sears leads the standings with 144 wins and $3.1 million in purses heading into the final two programs of the meet. Tim Tetrick is second with 134 victories, while David Miller is third with 96. Yannick Gingras and Andy Miller are tied for fourth with 94 wins apiece.

Sears won five straight titles from 2005-2009 and finished second in 2010 to George Brennan. The Secaucus, N.J., resident is a career winner of 7,500 races and $120 million in purses. Nearly half of Sears’ bankroll was built at the Meadowlands.

Meadowlands to offer Gold Cup and Saucer simulcast Saturday

Meadowlands Racetrack will simulcast the Gold Cup and Saucer, the Maritimes’ most prestigious harness race, on Saturday night.

The full 15-race card from the Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Prince Edward Island will be available for wagering at the Meadowlands, Monmouth Park and Favorites at Woodbridge.

The simulcast begins at 6 p.m. with post time for the Gold Cup and Saucer for older pacers estimated to be 11 p.m.
