While plans for a second racino in Maine were drenched when the legislature failed to overturn a gubernatorial veto, new plans are in the works.

Supporters of a harness track and slots operation in far eastern Washingtn County, Maine continue to collect signatures for a citizen-initiated referendum on November 7, according to a report in the Portland (Mane) Press Herald. The group needs 50,519 signatures by January 30.

There are also efforts by lawmakers and repesentatives of the Indian tribe that wants to operate the racino to open up a vote in June to Washington County residents only. That effort would require several hurdles to be crossed before June, including agreement by the legislature to draft a bll and approval of both houses of the legislature.
