Bangor, ME — While a well earned pension is a thing to be celebrated by most folks, a few stubborn and select Standardbreds turn up their noses at the very notion of mandatory retirement at the conclusion of their 14-year-old season.

Owned and trained by Lisa Watson, the veteran son of Western Terror-Flavor Of The Week charged down victory lane over an off-rated track at Bangor Raceway on Wednesday (May 4) with driver Wallace Watson perched in his customary seat. The 2:00.1 win was the 45th career top-finish for the former top-class campaigner who pushed his career bankroll over the $390,000 level with the effort.

Western Victory’s score enabled the Watson Stable to double their pleasure and brighten a rather drizzly day in the Queen City after 12-year-old relative youngster Goin Manstyle joined the winner’s ranks just two races prior.

While youth will be served (as the saying goes) the geriatric set certainly ruled the roost at Bangor on Wednesday.

In other action, Bruce Ranger continued his early season dominance, scoring three driving wins on Wednesday to back up Sunday’s opening day triple. Ranger’s hat trick included two victories behind Benson Merrill trainees as the Benson Barn extended its early season success at Bangor.

Bangor Raceway proudly features live harness racing every Wednesday at 3 p.m. (EDT) with the popular Sunday matinees getting underway at 12:15 p.m. Simulcast wagering is available Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 7 p.m.
