Martha Parrot and M Molly

By Anne Chunko

Last year, Martha Parrott found herself a new trail riding partner in the form of a bay mare named M Molly.

In 2003, Parrott had lost her Arabian gelding at age 31. So she started a search to find a new equine companion.

“.A friend told me of a woman wanting to sell a riding horse,” Parrott explained. “I went to look at Molly and she racked nicely and seemed to have a good personality. She was quite muddy and had numerous bite and kick marks, so I bought her as much out of compassion as need.”

Trail riding through scenic Mohican State Forest near their home is the pairs favorite activity. However, Parrott said that initially, trail riding was somewhat limited due to hindquarter soreness, diagnosed as a sore ovary by a vet, for which Molly is now being treated with Regumate.

Before become a trail mount, Molly raced on the pace primarily at Ohio fairs.

The bay mare by M Farmall and out of the B.G’s Bunny mare Darling Sahbara earning $10,502 from 32 starts. Her lifetime mark of 2:05 was taken in August

1999 at the Monroe County Fair in Woodsfield, Ohio. She raced for Ohioans Edwin Cook of Londonderry and partner Richard Cook of Chillicothe.
