Sharon Crown, a daughter of the immortal stallion Speedy Crown, was a stablemate of Moni Maker and trained by Bill Andrews.

She was the 1996 New York 2-year-old Filly Trotter of the Year, after dominating the New York Sires Stakes, winning six of eight starts in a freshman class which included the great Vernon Blue Chip.

After fully maturing and being pointed to the Hambletonian Oaks in her 3-year-old campaign, Sharon Crown unfortunately sustained a severe injury which interrupted her season and would impede the remainder of her race career.

Despite her true racing potential never fully realized, Sharon Crown was a dominant presence in the Open Trot ranks, always racing with the boys at Vernon Downs and Pompano Park, competing with the likes of Fern, Armbro Plato, Elan Spur, Rompaway Ozzie, No Mystery and Lion King.

As a broodmare, Sharon Crown continued to excel producing the world champion and stallion Caviar Crown as well as winners of more than $600,000.

However, in retirement, living out her days at Pine Hill Stables of New York, Sharon Crown’s real calling was being a nurse mare for orphaned foals. Never rejecting a foal in need of a mother, “Sharebear” as she was affectionately called, traveled all over the state, never turning down an opportunity to let her maternal instinct shine.

A mare of absolutely perfect character in all weather, she was never allowed to suffer. Rest in peace, Sharon.
