Sharon Mae Clark, 70, dies

Temple Hills, MD — Sharon Mae Clark, 70, died Oct. 18, 2011, at her daughter’s home in New York.

Mrs. Clark was born Oct. 14, 1941, in New Jersey. She married Eugene Francis Clark on March 26, 1966. The two raised their family together in New York and were very active in the harness racing industry in both New York and Maryland.

The Clarks were fixtures around the Maryland racing circuit. Mrs. Clark took care of and trained horses for many of the Rosecroft based trainers. She was a member of the USTA since 1966 and a longtime Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners’ Association member.

In 2010, she had a record year training her small stable with $111,445 in money won and seven wins, 10 seconds and seven thirds. In 2011, she was working her way to passing those marks with six wins, five seconds, three thirds and $73,041 in winnings.

Around the Maryland tracks she was like a mother to many and a friend to all. Everyone knew that she was always open for coffee and conversation with friends.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her children, Kelly, Mark (Noreen), Cindy (Butch) Christ, Linda (Jack) Schaefer, David and Eugene Jr. (Beverly); 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Dean Haase. She was preceded in death by her husband.

There are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark’s R.C. Church, 16789 Kenmor Rd., Kendall, NY 14476, on Thursday (Oct. 20) at 10:30 a.m. Interment at the convenience of the family.
