POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – After finishing second in each of his last two outings, Shattered Halo returned to the winner’s circle on Saturday for the second time this year when taking the featured $10,000 Isle Mile I Pace at Pompano Park in 1:51.3.

Starting from post two with driver Tom Sells at the controls, Shattered Halo was quick off the gate to take control of the Saturday feature, turning back an early challenge from Eleven A M (Wally Hennessey) to establish position on the front-end through fractions of 27.3 and 57.2.

SHATTERED HALO (#4) and driver Tom Sells hold off SANDSTORM N (#4) to win Saturday’s $10,000 Isle Mile I Pace at Pompano Park in 1:51.3.

As the pacers moved down the backstretch, Sandstorm N (Daryl Bier) was angled out from fourth-place to attack first over, and the tempo quickened as the 5-year-old gelding inched closer to Shattered Halo, who reached the three-quarter marker in 1:24.4 after a third panel clocked in 27.2.

Shattered Halo continued to pace confidently through the final turn and entered the stretch with a one-length advantage, turning back the challenge of Sandstorm N to prevail by 3/4 length at the wire, after a final quarter-mile timed in a brisk 26.4.

Shattered Halo returned $8.60, $5.60, $2.20 for the victory. Sandstorm N brought in $8.40, $3.60 for second, while Eleven A M paid $2.60 for third.

Owned by Peninsula Farm, Inc., and Samuel Bowie, and trained by John Duer, Shattered Halo has won two of eight starts while competing at Pompano this year, adding a $10,000 Open Handicap victory on March 24 to his Saturday tally.
