Amazida takes Buffalo feature

Hamburg, NY – In Saturday’s featured $9,500 tenth race, Amazida, a 5-year-old VP Finance gelding won for the seventh time this year for owners Dale B. Wareham & Mark J. Jakubik in 1:56.1 over a track rated good but had plenty of moisture in it.

Capably driven by John Cummings, Jr., it was the fourth win in a row for Amazida, who was claimed on March 3rd at the Meadows for $15,000. Last week at Yonkers Raceway, Amazida won a $30,000 claiming race with a purse of $20,000 in 1:54.4 for his new connections.

Leaving from the far outside in the field of seven, Cummings, Jr. was content with settling in last as My Good Sam (Ron Beback, Jr.) hit the quarter-pole in 28.4. Eventual second place finishers Smarty Merit and reinsman J.D. Perrin took the lead away from My Good Sam and hit the half-mile beam in 57.3. Amazida and Cummings, Jr. were now motoring up on the outside and passed the entire field as they hit the three-quarter station in 1:26.4. A 29.2 last quarter-mile left the margin of victory at the wire at 2-1/2 lengths. Red Bullet (Kevin Cummings) came in the show spot.

The $4,750 share of the winning purse put Amazida’s season bankroll at $33,383 and $60,922 lifetime. He paid $6.10 to win as the second choice in the betting. Kris Rickert is the trainer.
