Sherman wins GLADA trot with Heidi’s Heart

Northfield, OH — Don Sherman and Heidi’s Heart faced challenges every step of Sunday’s (April 3) $7,500 Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association trotting event at MGM Northfield Park, but the veteran mare rebuffed them all to win in 1:58.2.

After Sherman and Heidi’s Heart made the front, they never had a breather at any point in the mile. The 6-year-old daughter of Uncle Peter was challenged the entire race by Emerald Chip (Lauren Harmon), who sustained uncovered pressure past the half in :59 and three-quarters in 1:28.3. On the far turn, Curlys Son (Marion Chupp) trotted around cover to join Heidi’s Heart at the top of the lane, but Heidi’s Heart prevailed by a nose over the late challenger. Emerald Chip finished a game third.

Jessica Roegner trains Heidi’s Heart, who paid $2.80 to win as the odds-on favorite, for owner Judy Roegner.
