Shooter Hill springs 26-1 shocker at The Meadows; Merriman wins six

Washington, PA – Shooter Hill blew up the tote board Wednesday (Oct. 6) at The Meadows when he shot the Lightning Lane to pull off a 26-1 shocker in the feature, a $9,800 Conditioned Pace.

Shooter Hill (#3), a 26-1 longshot, won Wednesday’s feature at The Meadows and paid $55.80 to win. Chris Gooden Photos.

Youremyobsession cut the fractions but had to expend energy fighting off the first-over challenge of Piketonflash. While that effort was successful, it opened the door for the pocket-sitting Shooter Hill, who charged through late for Jeremy Indoff to score in 1:56, a neck better than Youremyobsession. Piketonflash saved show.

Jim Rothfuss trains and owns Shooter Hill, a 3-year-old Racing Hill-Pretty Katherine gelding.

Aaron Merriman, harness racing’s “winningest” driver in each of the past six seasons, enjoyed a huge Wednesday with six victories on the 12-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday (Oct. 7), first post 12:45 p.m.
