Silva takes GSY Club Fall Series Final in style and at long odds

East Rutherford, NJ – A compact field of eight trotters went to post in the first race Friday night (Nov. 16) for $15,000 in the Final of the GSY Fall Series at the Meadowlands.

With no real leavers at the start, all eight trotters took a spot and left Robert Krivelin, aboard Cresurrey on a loose lead through a moderate opening quarter of :28.4.  That was short lived as second choice Shady McCoy, with David Offenberg holding the lines, pulled first-over before the half to challenge the leader but wasn’t able to clear until the top of the stretch.

It was there that Sergeant Seelster, with trainer Mark Silva in the bike, made his move to the lead under mild urging en route to a one-length victory.  He had the perfect second-over cover to Offenberg and Silva didn’t even move a muscle to get to the lead and wire first.  His backers were happy as they went to collect $46.60 on this second longest shot on the board.

Shady McCoy was able to hold onto second and Danish Durango, with Robert Hechkoff in the sulky, got up for third.  The mile was timed in 1:56.3 over the fast surface, which less than 24 hours had been hit by some heavy snowfall and rain.  The 6-year-old gelding by Holiday Road is owned and trained by Silva.

The GSY will be back in two weeks.  First post is 7:15 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night at the Big M.
