Skyway Quinton circles field to take Pocono Saturday feature

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Skyway Quinton, circling four-wide on the far turn around horses who had been used hard early, stayed strong to the wire to take the $17,200 pacing feature in 1:50.2 on Saturday afternoon at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Anthony Napolitano kept the victorious son of Real Desire near the back of the pack as favored Alluneedisfaith N (George Napolitano Jr.) yielded to Rollwithpapajoe (Joe Bongiorno) near the quarter, after which that one put up splits of :26.1, :55, and 1:22.1. The first-over bid from Western Fame (Daniel Dube) and a three-wide sweep from Luciano N (Simon Allard) did not gain on the frontenders, but Skyway Quinton did, pulling away to win by 1-1/2 lengths over the favorite Alluneedisfaith N and Prairie Panther, the longest shot on the board, who finished second in a dead heat.

Skyway Quinton, sent off at 8-1, scored his 20th career victory and raised his earnings to $199,477 for trainer Travis Alexander and owner Sarah Nichole Conrad.

The $14,000 fast-class co-feature fell to the Rock N Roll Heaven gelding Rock The Devil (Jim Marohn Jr.) in 1:50.2. The first-ever winner went to the lead nearing the three-quarters and went on to win comfortably for trainer Nifty Norman, and the Scarlett Stables LLC.

11-year-old Atta Boy Dan (Napolitano Jr.), Pocono’s Pacer of the Year in 2019, is doing pretty well in 2020 as well, recording his third straight win and sixth of the season in 1:51.1. Parked past a stinging :25.4 opening quarter, the Western Terror gelding stayed game and strong to the wire, while recording his 77th career win while boosting his earnings to $1,008,564. Peter Pellegrino trains the evergreen pacer for owner Stephen Larkin.
