Smokin Joe was a winner in a new European record of 1:56.4f.

The old record was from last year, when Coin Perdu won in 1:57f.

Smokin Joe raced for the third time. He won his debut in an impressive 1:58.3f, but went off stride in his next race. Smokin Joe is by Lavec Kronos — he by Enjoy Lavec — and out of Knowledge Face, she by Viking Kronos.

Tuesday night Smokin Joe was in command from the start and won by a neck over Filur Sisu (he by Explosive Matter), driven by Per Nordström.

Winning in 1:56.4f, Smokin Joe gained the honor of being the fastest 2-year-old in Europe this year. Last Saturday the Italian filly Zazza del Pino, driven by Enrico Bellei, won at Modena in 1:57.3f, but she only held the honor as the fastest until Tuesday night. Zazza del Pino is sired by Italian trotter Nad El Sheba, he by Windsong’s Legacy.
