Washington, PA — Smokinmombo wore down leader Anaffairtoremember and went on to a hard-earned victory in Tuesday’s (May 24) $22,000 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Smokinmombo was one of six winners on the card for driver Aaron Merriman.

Stuck with post nine, Smokinmombo trotted patiently for Aaron Merriman until she picked up the live first-over cover of Railee Priti. When her cover faltered before the three-quarters, the 4-year-old daughter of Explosive Matter-Horizontal Mombo went three wide briefly before engaging Anaffairtoremember. She prevailed in 1:55, 1-1/4 lengths better than the rallying UF Lindsay Lou Who. Anaffairtoremember saved show.

Chris Beaver trains Smokinmombo, who extended her career bankroll to $328,902, and owns with Synerco Ventures and James Gallagher.

It was one of six wins for Merriman on the 14-race card.
