Snow forces Balmoral to cancel Tuesday card

by Tom Kelley, publicity director, Balmoral Park

Crete, IL — One of the worst Chicago winters in recent history continued to wreak havoc with the racing schedule at Balmoral as Monday night and Tuesday morning’s heavy snowfall has forced the cancellation of the Tuesday, Feb. 26, racing program.

With 20 to 25 mph winds whipping around the four to six inches of snow that was dumped on the Southland area track, management and horsemen agreed that conditions would be unsuitable for racing on Tuesday.

The usual Wednesday morning qualifiers have also been cancelled and will now be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday’s (Feb. 27) regularly scheduled 10-race card will go as programmed with post time for the opener at 7:20 p.m. (CST).

Balmoral Park will remain open day and night for simulcast wagering on Tuesday.
