SOANY Scholarship Awards announced

Yonkers, NY — Bob MacDougall, Chairman of the SOA of New York Scholarship Committee, has announced that Shannon Grace Peters is the winner of the Association’s 2009-2010 Scholarship Award in the amount of $2,500 and Kristen Coyne is the winner of the Association’s $1,500 award.

Shannon Grace Peters is planning to attend Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. in the fall. She is a member of the National Honor Society at Bernards High School in Bernardsville, N.J., and has always been interested in the care and training of horses.

Kristen Coyne is planning to attend Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. in the fall, where her goal is to become a history teacher. She is an honor student at New Egypt High School in New Egypt, N.J., and she also has a passion for the harness racing industry, working part-time as a groom for her father.

MacDougall noted that the “Scholarship records of both winners, along with their participation in extracurricular activities were excellent, and should serve as examples for all high school and college students to follow. The Committee wishes all of the
applicants the very best as they continue on with their education.”

The annual SOA scholarships are awarded to SOA members, or members of their immediate families, or to covered individuals (backstretch personnel) or a member of their immediate families, for study beyond the high school level. The recipient is
chosen on the basis of merit and financial need.
