The hard fought win of Somwherovrarainbow in the $600,000 Breeders Crown final for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine last Saturday night (Oct. 27) enabled her world champion sire, Somebeachsomewhere, to edge past the long standing record of No Nukes for 2-year-old progeny earnings in a single season.

Somebeachsomewhere’s amazing first crop has now earned $4,562,790 this year compared to No Nukes, whose 2-year-olds banked $4,168,246 back in 1990. The second crop of Niatross earned $3,587,537 in 1985, followed by Western Hanover (2001) at $3,524,964 and Artsplace (1996) at $3,450,422, according to the Research Department of the United States Trotting Association.

Somebeachsomewhere, who is fully booked in his first season at Empire Stallions in Avenel, Victoria, Australia, holds a lead of almost $2 million over his nearest rival, Art Major, in this year’s 2-year-old Sires Premiership. Of a first foal crop of 124, he has had 95 starters with 63 in 2:00, 30 in 1:55 and 10 $100,000 winners and they have averaged $36,797 per foal so far.

His progeny are headed up by Captaintreacherous 1:49.2s ($917,141), the richest and fastest 2-year-old in North America in 2012, L Dees Lioness 1:50.2s ($472,418), Somwherovrarainbow 1:51.2s ($415,616), Apprentice Hanover 1:49.4s ($266,968), Nikki Beach 1:52 ($261,299) and Parlee Beach 1:50.4s ($210,509).
