Campbellville, ON — Fans of the Nova Scotia pacing phenomenon, Somebeachsomewhere, will have to wait a little longer to see the colt compete in Ontario.

Trainer and co-owner Brent MacGrath announced this morning that ‘Beach’ had been scratched from his scheduled 3-year-old debut in a division of the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations, this coming Saturday, May 17, at Mohawk Racetrack.

The colt apparently sustained a bone bruise in his right front foot on Tuesday afternoon, while enjoying some free time in a paddock at his training base, Baycairn Training Centre in Campbellville, Ontario.

MacGrath says the injury is minor and that Somebeachsomewhere is sound, but that some detectable heat in the foot has prompted him to be cautious and give the son of Mach Three some time off to heal. X-rays, he says, revealed no damage, but an MRI scan detected the bone bruise.

Somebeachsomewhere, who was unbeaten in his freshman season and set a world record of 1:49.3 in the C$1 million Metro Pace, will likely now be aimed for the Burlington Stakes, also at Mohawk, on May 31. MacGrath has indicated he will consult with long-time friend, and the colt’s regular driver, Paul MacDonell, as to whether Somebeachsomewhere will attempt another qualifier prior to that as a warm-up.

The colt made his 2008 charted debut during a May 5 qualifier at Mohawk, cruising to an effortless 10-1/4 length victory in 1:51.1.
