Columbus, OH — Closing night of the State Fair races at Scioto Downs saw 3-year-old trotting and pacing colts go head to head in one division each on Saturday (Aug. 8).

I Know My Chip was a 1:55.1 winner for Chris Page.

I Know My Chip and Chris Page took the $101,500 Governor’s Cup Trot in 1:55.1. Trained by Ron Burke, the son of Deep Chip out of the Pegaus Spur mare Madeline’s Crown took to the front after a :28.1 opening quarter and never looked back.

“Three days ago when they drew the race, he drew the rail, so I got to dictate things a little bit,” said Page. “Tonight he was absolutely two fingers, real manageable, let me make all the decisions, as opposed to him; just real marvelous tonight.

“Sometimes he gets a little hot out there, but tonight Ronnie and the crew, they did a great job keeping him calm this week, apparently, because he was two fingers in the post parade. I still took him to the marshal, but he was magnificent.”

I Know My Chip is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Phillip Collura. He now has more than $218,000 in earnings, with a 9-5-3-0 record this season.

Cornerback scored in 1:53.3 at odds of 49-1.

At 49-1, Cornerback took the $101,000 Director of Agriculture Pace in 1:53.3, paying $100.40 to win. Trained by Brian Brown and driven by Ryan Stahl, the son of Feelin Friskie out of the Stand Forever mare Cornerstand broke his maiden for the 2015 racing season.

“He’s been getting a little steppy and rough. I just tried to get him out there the best I could,” said Stahl. “They mixed it up pretty good, going to the half in :55 and when I called on him in the last turn, I mean, he really responded.

“He did have some breaking problems and he even did his last start. When I drove him at Northfield, Brian thought he had been better and left his hobbles out and thought he was cross firing a little bit. It seemed to help him and he seems like he’s getting good at the right time.”

Owned and bred by Stephen Sexton, Cornerback now has more than $111,000 in lifetime earnings.

Racing resumes at Scioto Downs on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. post and continues Wednesday through Saturday at 6:30 p.m. each day. Ohio Super Night will be held on closing night, Sept. 12.
