Sophomore filly trotters invade Buffalo Wednesday

Hamburg, NY – The final installment of the 3-year-old division of the New York Sire Stakes at Buffalo Raceway will take place on Wednesday afternoon (June 8) with two races scheduled for the filly trotters set to square off for $57,000 each.

In the first bracket, set for the second event on the 12-race card, Gertrude leads the field. A winner of $148,915 in her brief career. Gertrude (Devious Man-Ophelia) collected victories last season in the $70,000 New Jersey Standardbred Development Fund event along with taking the $40,300 Simpson at Harrah’s Philadelphia. She arrives off of a solid 1-3/4 length win in the New York Excelsior Series at Vernon Downs on May 30 in 1:54.3. Tyler Miller is scheduled to drive her from post three.

Pioneer AS has two starts in the NYSS this year, finishing in third at Yonkers and second at Vernon Downs. With a lifetime bankroll of $88,363, Tyler Buter will score her from post four.

Others in the race include the lightly raced Pure Countess (Jim Morrill Jr.), Bomb Hugger (Anthony MacDonald) and She’s A Scorcher (Jason Bartlett).

The second division features two finalists in last season’s NYSS 2-year-old filly trot in Gettinmystepsin and Seven On The Rocks.

Gettinmystepsin finished seventh in the 2021 championship race but has a second-place finish in the NYSS at Yonkers on May 16. She comes into Wednesday’s event with a fifth-place effort at Vernon Downs on May 30 in a NYSS race. Andy Miller will steer Gettinmystepsin, a winner of $91,362 in her career, from post two.

Seven On The Rocks gets the rail on Wednesday for John Stark Jr. She’s had a pair of third-place finishes in NYSS competition thus far in 2022 and was fifth in last season’s series final.

La Vie En Blanc has a score in the NYSS this year as she beat both Gettinmystepsin and Seven On The Rocks back on May 16 at Yonkers. She covered the mile in 1:57.4 in pulling out the three quarter-length triumph. Bartlett gets the call in the sulky.

Others set to participate include Cash Infusion (Mark MacDonald) and In A Tiny Way (Mike Simons), who is fresh off an Excelsior A win at Vernon Downs on May 30 in 1:54.3.

There will be a pair of Excelsior A Series races on the card set to begin at 1:30 p.m. There’s a carryover of $1,374 in the Pick-5 that begins in the second race.
