Sophomore pacers vie in Ohio Sires Stakes Saturday night

Columbus, OH — A pair of $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes will see 16 pacing colts and gelding line-up behind the Northfield Park starting gate Saturday evening (July 7) in round three action of the four-leg series for 3-year-olds. First race post time is 6 p.m., with the Ohio Sires Stakes scheduled as the eighth and 11th races.

Bounding Dragon looks to be the one to beat in the first division (race eight). This Dragon Again sophomore colt hails from the Mike Roth barn for owners Alan Keith and Carl and Melanie Atley.

Bred by Emerald Highlands Farm and J&T Silva Stables, Bounding Dragon captured leg one of this series at Miami Valley on May 6 in 1:53, then followed that up with a 1:50.4 clocking in a Hoosier Park overnight. Most recently, he scored a 1:52 triumph in a Scioto Downs overnight on June 23, after finishing second by a head in 1:50.4 to Cinnamack in the second OSS leg.

Bounding Dragon has amassed $136,650 in career earnings and $65,250 in seasonal earnings with six wins, seven seconds and one third in 16 lifetime starts. He is the second and most prolific of four foals out of the Rocknroll Hanover mare Bound To Rock p,2,1:54.2s ($66,265).

Kimberly Dailey and Carl and Melanie Atley’s Rockathon is the standout in the second OSS test (race 11). This gelded son of Pet Rock was third to Lather Up in OSS leg one at Miami Valley on May 6, then captured leg two on June 9 at Scioto Downs in a career best of 1:51.1.

Rockathon was bred by Ron Salcedo and sports a bankroll of $186,012 from six wins, four seconds and a trio of thirds in 16 lifetime starts. He is the seventh of eight foals out of the broodmare Pantathlon (by The Panderosa) p,2,1:54.4f ($20,221). His half-siblings include Pan From Nantucket (by No Pan Intended) p,1:51.3h ($570,801) and Rosemary Rose (by Foreclosure N) p,4,1:51f ($320,782).

Cinnamack, a McArdle colt conditioned by Brian Brown for breeder/owner Emerald Highlands Farm, finished a solid fourth in his OSS leg one division at Miami Valley on May 6, then won leg two on June 9 at Scioto Downs in 1:50.4. This lightly-raced sophomore has five wins, a second and a third in 12 career starts and $72,600 in his coffers. This venerable pacer is the sixth foal out of the Western Ideal mare Armbro Cinnamon p,3,1:54.4h ($58,959), making him a half-brother to world champion Fear The Dragon (by Dragon Again) p,3,1:48.4s ($1,578,547). He also has half-siblings in Cinamony (by Art Official) p,4,1:49.3f ($532,404) and Cndiana Jones (by Art Major) p,1:53.1f ($115,559).
