East Rutherford, NJ — K & R Racing and Teague, Inc.’s Southwind Lynx, only the second favorite despite having won the $1 million Meadowlands Pace in his prior start, took the lead on the backstretch and held the others at bay on the way to a 1:48.3 victory in the $121,000 second division of the Oliver Wendell Holmes for 3-year-old pacing colts on Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands.

Meadowlands Pace winner Southwind Lynx won the $121,000 second division of the Oliver Wendell Holmes for 3-year-old pacing colts on Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands in 1:48.3.

Driven by Tim Tetrick, the winner could only follow while Watta Hotshot sprinted clear at the start and reached the quarter pole in :27. Tetrick, however, took the bull by the horns and led at the next two poles, reached in :54.2 and 1:22, respectively.

The favored Tell All (Jody Jamieson) came after the leader on the final turn, but could not close sufficiently and finished third, behind Watta Hotshot.

Trained by George Teague, Jr., Southwind Lynx has now won four of seven starts and $1.08 million this year.

“He’s really nice, and getting better and better,” Tetrick said afterwards. “He’s a very nice colt, just coming around, and sharp right now.”
